i create 5 cd to intergrate driver SATA AHCI for aspire 4720 but not working. at last of 6 cd, i succesfully install win xp sp2 in aspire 4720 BUT, the TRUE driver is SATA AHCI 82801 HH/HM (ICH8 E/M).

hey i did the driver integration and when i insert the cd into the system, and the installation starts, after i write the product key, the computer name, and i choose the tipical network configuration, (i dont choose it custom, just the first option on the screen), the installation keeps on, but then i get a blue screen, saying that there is a problem with the installation, and i have to shut down the pc , what is it???

check your SATA mode in bios ... (if exist) try switch to IDE mode or to AHCI mode...

if don't work.. try reinstall windows...

Hi ronald, did you upgrade your RAM? visipro? vgen? or what? after chat with acer technician, he found many bluescreen happened in acer laptop after upgrade their ram using vgen or visipro... but its not happen to all acer...

or you may try to upgrade your VGA driver

Thank you for the response. I was able to switch to IDE mode in bios and that fixed the problem.

However, after running through and installing most of the drivers, I have 2 new problems. First, after installing the wireless lan drivers, my wireless card was recognized and working. That was yesterday though - today the card isn't even showing up in my device manager.

The next problem is that there is still a yellow exclamation in my device manager. It shows the location for the device to be on Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2. What is that?

It's really helpful although in the end, I decided not to install SATA driver because I've already install my windows using IDE driver setting on the BIOS (I'm too lazy to reinstall my windows) and the AHCI driver doesn't work. It says that my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirement.

You said that no bluetooth available in aspire 4720z in Indonesia. How about InfraRed port ? Is it available ? Because when I install the driver, nothing happen. Looks like it can't find the device.

Do you know how to check the devices' availability on aspire 4720z ?

You may try to use repair menu from Vista DVD :
1. Boot from Vista DVD
2. A new screen will now appear with a progress bar. The legend say's 'Windows is loading files'
3. After a few minutes the Microsoft copyright window will appear and another small progress bar will be visible
4. You will next see a Blue curtained screen
5. After a short while the Language option screen will appear
6. Select your language and keyboard language and the Click the Next button
7. At the bottom left of the next screen - the Install screen, Click on the Repair Your Computer option
8. The System recovery options will now search for your Windows Vista installation
9. Once the Vista installation has been located, Highlight it and then Click the Next button
10. You are now presented with the following set of recovery options :
Startup repair - This automatically fixes problems that are preventing Windows from starting
System Restore - This will Restore Windows to an earlier point in time
Windows Complete PC Restore - This will completely restore your entire PC - programs, system settings and files - from a back up that you have previously created (Available in Windows Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate editions only)

took two days including intel chipset update but on my system the prob centered on forcing xp sp3 to install uaa

I got the same problem but it is not really a big issue, your CD is the problem, mostly Cds downloaded from P2P sites gives such messages because they have somehow altered the booting part of it, this doesn't mean that it wont work. The bios of these aspire laptop cannot processes such modification automatically, so you need to go to drive D:\ (cd drive) access i386 and run winxp install from CMD prompt......The best if not a guru in CMD get another CD:(
.....????if XP says no no harddisk found in your PC, simply go to bios-sata and choose IDE not AHCI-- install your win xp plus all drivers (chipset) then go to bios againa and revert to Sata mode "AHCI" again

Hi Cahya, My Broadcom Ethernet card is not working. My wireless internet is working fine, but when I plug in my ethernet cable at school nothing happens. At home, wireless is all I need, but at school I need my ethernet card to work. My wireless card is Atheros, which is working, and my ethernet is Broadcom. The driver above for Broadcom says wireless before it, so I don't think that is the right one. Help please :)

Empowering Technology from different types of notebook not always compatible... but you may try it... I think its depends on the hardware.. if the hardware is similiar (same), empowering technology from different acer types will compatible...

Hi Burt, did you mean aspire 4720? try to uninstall/roll back CrystalEye driver from device manager, so Windows XP will detect it as USB Video Device...

the only "problem" is that now i have to push the power button to turn off the computer...

I was able to install Windows XP on my Aspire 4720z, and almost every driver. Almost, because i've got a serious problem with the video card (the intel gma x3100).

Everytime i install the driver and reboot the system, the screen turns 640x480 and 16 colors, and i can't change it's configuration, because "another monitor appears". It's so weird =(

Swapped Suyin webcam driver for Bison and system shuts down perfectly. Thanks for this tutorial, luv my 4720z now.

Sorry I was wrong. Shutdown perfectly a couple of time but now hangs again. Hanging on shutdown seems to be caused by the webcam driver or a resourse that it may be sharing. Still need advice.

I figured out how to install the Audio Driver for my 4720Z:

1. Install the Bluetooth driver.

2. Extract the Audio Driver to a folder after downloading it from the link at the top of this webpage.

3. Now, go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, and then Device Manager. Look for a PCI device with a question mark next to it. Right Click on it, and select properties.

4. Select Reinstall drivers. Select the "No, not at this time" choice. Then select install from a specific location. Browse, and find the folder where your audio driver is. Choose the folder "WDM". Then press ok. This will install a necessary driver to find you Audio device.

5. Now exit out of Device Manager and go back to your Audio Driver folder. Run "Setup.exe", and the Driver should work.

I still have the problem.
When I try to install NVIDIA driver (through setup.exe) it tells me that the program Nvidia didn't find the driver that suits equipment.

As for the CIR driver, after I follow the instruction " When you boot Windows or select "scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager" nothing happens :(

Just select all drivers when insert driver in nLite :)

press "control A" or press Shift then make selection...

if you want to use IDE mode instead of AHCI, change SATA mode to IDE mode in BIOS before install Windows XP

i tried to install the crystall webcam for acer aspire 4720 but couldnt be successful. this is what i did...

1) downloaded the driver Suyin driver from above
2) Try to uninstall webcam driver from device manager until windows xp detect it as USB Video device.. not CrystalEye .. ok done and device manager detects the driver and it is installed .. no exclamation sign
3) try to load the webcam but it hangs while initializing the device

Dont install the driver from Acer for Webcam, it seems to have problems and cause the XP to hang when shutting down. I've simply uninstall Crystaleye and everything works well now.

when you build Win XP with nLite, try to insert the CD Key in nLite...

I m using Acer Aspire 4720z laptop.
I got a few problem with this laptop, firstly when it is loading window and load until the main screen, the screen will flash for awhile and i found a graphic problem when i m playing GUNBOUND with this laptop. After i login to my avatar screen in Gunbound, i pressed ALT+TAB to the main window screen and ALT+TAB again to go back to the game avatar, i cannot see my character anymore. Everything is there except the character throughout the whole game.

Secondly this laptop keeps HANGING suddenly eventhough i didn't run any application, just normal website surfing. By the way, i upgraded an additional 1gb of ram when i purchase it, so total is 1.5gb

Thirdly the WIFI keep disconnecting suddenly, i installed atheros adapter. The connection light on the laptop is still there but i can't open any website anymore as though its disconnected. I need to restart the laptop everytime to go online. I m using the Atheros driver, i tried the broadcom driver also. I can't use the Intel Wireless, don't know why. I have another laptop the model is 5551, that comes with an INTEL PROSET Wireless driver, its smoother and easier to use that this laptop's driver. can anyone help me please :(

the WIFI keep disconnecting suddenly, i installed atheros adapter. The connection light on the laptop is still there but i can't open any website anymore as though its disconnected.

Try this atheros driver (download here) if your hardware is atheros do not install driver for different hardware... good luck :)

This is Shankar here, I have installed XP in 4720Z with ur help. But my wireless lan is not working, it prompts for me to enter the secure connection key. But after that nothing is working, but i am able to connect using ethernet card. It shows as "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter".

Hi Shankar, the problem is not from your 4720Z, you need to insert secure connection key because AP (Access Point) in your hotspot area have WPA/WPA2 security enabled.. please contact your network administrator. or if you are the network administrator ;) please reconfigure the AP (access point) and disable the security function :) but remember if you disable the WPA/WPA2, everyone will able to connect through your AP.

Thanks for the reply. But i want the connection to be a secured connection, I have the key to be entered. After I enter the key also, it is not able to detect the connection. It gives Wireless connection unavailable. But in the system with vista, it is able to identify the connection immediately.

My guess there is some problem with the driver which I installed, tried with the wlan drivers in this site.

Hi Kripashankar, did you install intel proset? please uninstall it first, dont forget to uninstall all wireless driver from Device Manager then try install this Atheros wireless driver (Download here)

This problem may occur if the locally cached Microsoft Windows Installer package (*.msi) file is damaged or corrupted. Try another program installer... (another CD) or you may download it again.

Hello Cajya, thanks for the help and the list of drivers. However, I am having a little problem since my acer aspire 4720 won't detect the bluetooth. It comes with a bluetooth device, but it is not turned on... and I haven't been able to turn it on. Also, I installed the CIR drivers but I haven't been able to use the Infra Red feature... any help would be greatly apreciated!

Hi mytryl, press that bluetooth button, and please install Launch manager (Download) to see the status of your bluetooth...

about CIR... please open Device Manager check whether CIR already detected or not.

Graphic problem fixed

But still having problem with the Wireless connection eventhough i updated the new atheros driver.

Keep disconnecting everytime, within 20minute - 1 hour, it will disconnect itself and i cannot see the network connection. The whole thing is gone.

Is it a defective wireless card?

I didn't install eNet management.
I think i bought a defective unit, i read on other webpage that some user using 4720 and some acer model also experience suh problem with the wifi.

have to go to the acer service center :( no choice already

Hello again Cahya. Well, I installed Launch manager, and I press the bluetooth button, and I get a NO DEVICE message. I am running windows XP already. The CIR is recognized as a HID not as a CIR, and I have tried uninstalling it, and then installing it with the CIR drivers but no luck... any ideas?

please go to BIOS (press F2 during boot) then switch SATA mode from AHCI to IDE mode. windows XP will easily detect the HDD. in newer version of acer BIOS this option is available.

After installing the wireless lan (Atheros ar5007eg) drivers, my wireless card was recognized and working fine.

After a while the wireles icon disappear and the card isn't even showing up in my device manager.

i try reinstalling the drivers several times and with other drivers (older versions) and i have the same problem.

if you know a solution it would be apreciated.

are you using Vista?
please UNINSTALL THE ATHEROS UPDATES. These updates would have been downloaded and installed through the Windows update utility.

Through windows update utility, search through your installed updates. Unistall atheros updates. Restart your aspire 4720.

please set your update to manual (no more automatic update).

8Mb is dedicated memory.
goto BIOS (press F2 during boot) then you can change shared graphics memory here up to 358Mb.

Open device manager, is there any "Crystal Eye" or "USB Video Device" ??? What is your current operating system? XP or Vista?

try to uninstall all Crystal Eye driver, normally windows XP will detect it as "USB Video Device"

My english, isnt better but...

to solve the problem with webcam:

1º uninstall the driver em "devices manager". (and in control panel, uninstall the aplicatives from webcam).
after the boot, appears PnP webcam device, so install ONLY the driver (not the application).
After, in device manager appears some errors in sound devices, just reinstall the sound drivers.

It's better if you install Chipset driver first, then all other device drivers.

Coba pakai driver sound yang lain, bisa di download di halaman ini kan :), kemudian cek di device manager apakah sound sudah terdeteksi belum.

to use CIR, e.g for transfer data to cellphone please read cellphone manual, sometimes you will need to install software from cellphone provider to able use CIR.

open BIOS (press F2 during boot) then goto "SATA mode", AHCI or IDE mode ??? if it in IDE mode, change it to AHCI then follow this tutorial dont forget to use this sata driver

maybe you have problem when use nLite to insert driver to Windows XP installation disc. but you may try to change sata mode from BIOS... follow this tutorial

change it to IDE mode, and original Windows XP CD will easily detect the Harddisk.

You must uninstall Crystal Eye driver from Device Manager until windows XP detect it as USB Video Device, Click Start > Control Panel > System > Select Hardware tab > click Device Manager > then double click on Crystal Eye >
select Driver tab > Click Uninstall (or Roll Back Driver) then restart... -if Windows XP still detect it as Crystal Eye, please select Roll Back Driver.

If you experienced problem to turn on your notebook, please remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then replace it back..press power button. sometimes it's happen because of that "Crystal Eye" driver.

that's why you must uninstall it until windows XP detect it as USB Video Device.

-or update your BIOS... it will solve everything ... :)

On a Aspire 4720Z with XP SP3 and Atheros wireless driver v5.3.0.56 I had a problem where it would disconnect afer about 20min, also the Atheros device was missing in Devicemanager.
This problem was solved by upgrading the driver via MS Update.

You can open Internet Explorer or Mozilla firefox... (click "activate now" or something)... then after the internet browser opened, click "File" > "Open", navigate to C:\Windows\System32 , select "cmd.exe", right click on it, select "Open" or "Run as Administrator"....
on Command Prompt window type cscript slmgr.vbs - rearm , please wait a few seconds... Upon completion you will receive the following message : "Command completed successfully. Please restart the system for the changes to take effect." (if this message not show up, maybe this message is behind your internet browser... minimize your internet browser's window), restart your computer.... and you are finished extend the Windows Vista activation period for 30 days... you can repeat this for 3 times... (total: 120 days)

- your Windows XP may dirty or broken

- you CD is not bootable

- maybe you use windows XP from third party and that CD is not bootable CD

- maybe you failed to make bootable CD when copy CD (from original Windows XP CD) ;) please use lowest speed when you copy and burn Windows XP CD...

- Your optical things in your DVDrom is dirty

in early version of Acer BIOS... there are no option about "SATA mode" so you cannot change the SATA mode to IDE... but you may update your BIOS to make that option available :)

Dosen saya pernah mengalami hal ini (dia pakai Aspire 4520). Gunakan Windows XP SP2 jangan SP1 atau SP3... :)... kalau tetap ingin pakai XP SP3.. coba gunakan SP2, install semua driver, baru upgrade ke SP3.. :)

cd\
press enter

boot.ini
press enter

then you can edit boot.ini... don't forget to save it...

4720 and 4720z... same motherboard...
first.. all you need to do is insert AHCI driver into Windows XP CD.. (original windows xp wont detect SATA AHCI - if you want to use AHCI) follow this guide... but use this driver (Download here). If you want to use IDE mode instead of AHCI mode... simply go to BIOS then change SATA mode option to IDE mode.. but in older version of BIOS sometime this option is unavailable.

then insert windows XP CD... go to BIOS (press F2 during boot) change first boot priority to DVDRW.. restart...

then follow the instructions on the screen

My Aspire 4720z has Express Card Slot.

Btw, What is CIR driver and LM driver Aspire 4720 - Windows XP?

I think express card slot doesn't need a driver again... windows xp automatically detect it... CMIIW

CIR driver is driver for Infra Red device..

LM Driver is driver and application for Launch Manager.

I have a problem and maybe you can help me. I own an Acer Aspire 4720z and it have as wireless card an Atheros AR5007EG and the eNet Management you post here doesnt work with this card. Do you know if there any eNet Management for this card and running under WinXP SP2??

That eNet Management doesnt work too. It seems to work with some Intel based cards, not with Atheros.

Hey everyone I'am an owner of the Acer Aspire 4720z and Iam having some trouble changing the bios from IDE back to AHCI after installing windows XP Pro sp3 and all the necessary drivers, right now the driver is labeled
---IDE ATA\ATAPI controllers
\_Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers-2850

I have already tried to install both the drivers mention on this website for the AHCI of the 4720 and travelmate bot both bring up errors mentioning that they cannot be installed because the computer does not meat minimum requirements. If any one could help me it would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance

1. webcam error n muncul pesannya " Creation of the video preview failed"
" Please check the device connection and make sure that the device is not being used by another application or user"

2. volumenya masalah, ntn movie ato dengar lagu online gak ada suara (tp kl buka di player ada suara) cm buka file .flv ga ada suara. trus waktu nyala n shutdown laptop ga ada suara jg.
