Play Red Alert 2 on LAN - Windows Vista - Yes We Can
SPONSORED LINKS

A few months ago ... blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com
I wrote a post about how to play Red Alert 2 on Windows Vista... Yes it works! but I don't know how to play Red Alert 2 on LAN (LAN multiplayer)... because Red Alert 2 uses IPX when we play on LAN and Windows Vista doesn't support IPX ! blogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

but, finally someone tell me that we can play Red Alert 2 on LAN on Windows Vista

To play Ra2 on LAN on Vista ain't possible because vista doesn't support IPX.
But if you go to http://www.understorm.net/ you can download a file (wsock32.dll) which you simply puts into your Westwood/Red Alert 2 directory, the game will work on lan.

Thank you!!! blogger-emoticon.blogspot.comblogger-emoticon.blogspot.com

This patch allows you to play Tiberian Sun and RA2 over LAN on Windows 2000 and above.
The patch makes use of the UDP protocol instead of IPX which no longer requires you to have IPX installed.

Supported Operating Systems by this release of the multiplayer patch:
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

This is Red Alert 2 page, simply download that patch (zip) file then extract it, and read the "readme"

You can use this patch in Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun.
For Command & Conquer 95 and Red Alert 1 LAN Patch follow this link

You can play ra2 with an xp and a vista as I just got it working yesterday. We had problems finding a way to get the IPX protocol especially on the vista. So we used Hamachi. It basically creates a mini network and converts IPX in TCP so you can play using newer windows. Its free to download. Make sure you can ping each over alright over it so you know your connected. Just a couple of things to remember. If you have an IPX protocol make sure its disabled on the hamachi network and also you need to go into network connections, hamachi network, advanced tab , advanced settings(its there on vista as well keep looking), then make sure hamachi is the top network on both systems. If this doesn't work am sorry but keep trying it is possible

I have Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge. I did that patch thing. But still, when I start ra2.exe i cannot access "network" in the menu, when I push, it slides away and then menu comes back.

When I start Yuri.exe from RA2 directory, I CAN access "network" in the menu.

Interesting that there is a difference between ra2.exe and yuri.exe in the network part.

This is not my work but something i have found during my searches through the net.

    (Found at: http://www.starbase01.com/site/index.php?aid=87 )

    "IPX/SPX Protocol in Vista (32bit)

Microsoft has removed IPX/SPX support from Windows Vista.

Because a lot of older games only can be played across a LAN using this protocl (for example: the early Command & Conquer series) I have done some research and discoved that simply copying some files into a couple of Vista folders will allow you to install this protocol once again!

    This operation requires Administrator Rights!
Please note that I can't be held responsible for any damage caused to your system!
This works only for the 32bit version of Windows Vista!
NOT the 64bit version, as that version will only accept signed drivers.

There are two ways to install the protocol on your Vista installation:

    1. Automatic Installation:

Download & execute this installer (275KB). (goto the site (listed above) for the downloads)

    2. Manual Installation:

Download this ZIP file (368KB)(goto the site (listed above) for the downloads)

Extract it to the root of your systemdrive (most of the time this will be C:\) while observing the folder structure.

Then open the Network & Sharing Center.
Choose the option that says "Manage Network Connections"
Right click your connection, click properties
    Click the Install button

The NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol may be listed on the Network Protocol list.
    DO NOT SELECT IT.

    Click Have Disk... C:\Windows\inf.
    Select netnwlnk.inf.
    Click OK.
Select the NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol from the list.
Vista will tell you that the publisher could not be verified.
    Click Install.

    You're done!

    Enjoy!

Trying to get a ra2 session on the go with a friend but we both have vista computers. It played fine when I was playing using a vista against him using windows xp, just that i could only create games, and not see/join them.

Now with both of us using vista, we can't see eachother in the lobby or even see a created game. Anyone know what the problem is? or if it is even possible to play red alert 2 over hamachi using 2 vista computers?

I'm kind of stuck in a issue with this too. My brother and I have vista computers and are trying to play with a 3 person whom has Windows XP. However, we all can play with each other when it's just 1 v 1. When we try to get 3 people in the same game, it just says "Waiting..." on their name and never loads. Can anyone help with this? I can play with my brother (Vista to Vista) or with my friend (Vista to XP) and my brother can play with my friend (Vista to XP again) but we all can't play together (Vista - Vista - XP)

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I am the anonymous who post at JUNE 09 AND JUNE 27.I am playing with my brother over Hamachi and the both Pc are Vista.I never try to play with a XP computer.I had an issue trying to play Tiberian Sun.When someone was join a game the was who was join his name appear two times and when press ready the third name was there and we couldnt make the game start.I update my hamachi cause the site i give at JUNE 09 is an older version of hamachi and everything works fine. All the copmuters must have the SAME version of Hamachi.

If this dont work i thing XP support IPX but you have to activate it so go to step 3 and do what is saying.so everybody is using IPX.I dont thing this gonna do something but try it out.
