I have found that most of the drivers listed above work for the Windows XP 64-Bit. However, if anyone is around and can help, I still need the video drivers. I think the modem driver is missing, too, and something else, but I don't care about those.
Thanks for any help, in advance.

Hi, i just downloaded the drivers and tried to install Windows XP.
I used a install cd with a sata-driver from my Acer Aspire 5920 but this don't work. Windows stops the installation with a bluescreen.
Do you know which sata driver i has to include to the installation cd? If you can upload the driver it would be very nice :P
mfg friese
ps: sorry for my bad english xD

You can't use sata ahci driver from Aspire 5920 because it has different chipset...
Aspire 5920 has Intel 965 Series chipset... but Aspire 6930 has Intel 4 Series chipset.
For Aspire 6930 use this ahci sata driver (Download) (Mirror)
then follow this guide (Slipstreaming sata ahci driver to Windows XP using nLite)

    Hello Friese,

I think if you go into SETUP when you first turn on computer (using F2, I believe), you can change from SATA to IDE in there and get your operating system installed. That's what I did, anyway. :)

  • At January 10, 2009 12:10 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Yeah, i know, but then you can't change back to SATA because Setup says that your hardware isn't compatible to SATA...

And XP is only the second operating System only for Games...
So I don't want to change this.

Hi again... I really appreciate the effort... but my 6930 does not have the Nvidia video card. Mine has the Intel GM45 video. I have been all over the Intel website and several driver websites and cannot seem to locate an XP 64-bit driver for this GM45. Here is what the Acer site says about my video and audio:

Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset with integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (Intel® GMA 4500MHD) with up to 1759 MB of Intel® Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0 (64 MB of dedicated video memory, up to 1695 MB of shared system memory), supporting Microsoft® DirectX® 10.

Of course I realize that DirectX 10 is a VISTA thing and 9.0c is good for me with XP.

As for the audio, I have sound now. I don't know if it is all of the sound I am supposed to have (HDMI or whatever it is called), but I have sound. Basically, from what I can see, I just need a video driver so that I can set my resolution to higher than 1024 X 768 and so I can have 2 screens show up in display settings enabling me to EXTEND my desktop to a second screen... and since this unit does not have S-Video, I will have to go out of the HDMI port to a TV so that port needs to be recognized by XP Pro 64-bit, as well, correct?

I could be WAY off here... as I have had little sleep in the past few days. :)

    Thanks!!

I love y 6930g but of course, i have 2 problems with it. My DVD-RW will not burn CDs bu it burns DVDs and secondly, the eSATA port runs about 10 times slower than a USB port. What can i do? Is there i firmware update or some special driver for the eSATA controller? If anyone else has the esata port and tested it please post a feedback. Could it be the BIOS setting IDE/AHCI that prevent the writing of CDs and the performance of the eSATA ?

ps- when you install the driver 179.28_notebook_winxp_32bit_beta from UPDATE 3 you also have the option to install high definition audio drivers. Cheers!

Hi again... and final suggestions before I strip off XP PRO 64-Bit and use the 32-Bit? I will only have access to 3GB of my 4GB RAM, but it doesn't seem that there are any 64-bit video drivers for the Intel GM45 video chipset/video card this unit has. Everything else seems to be working good enough. It's a shame I can get the video extended or the resolution any higher than 1024 X 768. Thanks again for any ideas you may have.

I just got aspire 6930-6455 for $550 from Staples. I have to say it's worth the money for now. I have some software do not run on vista. So, I tried to install XP(32bit), but I'm getting the death blue screen. I can't even use XP(64bit) because my software do not run on it. After googling around, I'm getting the impression that ASPIRE 6930-6455 cannot take XP(32bit). Has anyone found a way to install XP(32bit)?

you must press F2 in open screen and enter to bios after that you met go to the main tab.. Select Sata type (This is originally AHCI) you must change this value using F6 key, and press F10 for save and exit... Your problem is solved like this ;)

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the support. Just a few things I've noticed:

For audio drivers, the ftp sites dont work. You can download the drivers via: Realtek Software

And I couldn't install my webcam so I searched for Bison Camera Driver under Windows XP and found: Lenovo Support
    Download Bison Camera Software

Good luck and keep up the good work!

    Thanks

Hi - I have recenlty bought the Aspire 6930g... core duo 2ghz.. 4gb ram.. 512 geforce 9300m GS... etc.. I have followed this guide to install XP which i have done and it has worked perfectly! Thanks for the great Tutorial with driver links. I just have one problem unfortunately... i have installed Crysis and unfortunately it runs terribly. I expected it to run with all settings on HIGH and to run perfectly as you would expect it to from reading the specs... but its the opposite. It lags and jerks and i can barely move around. My mate has a pc with similar specs... 2gb less ram and also a 512 geforce but earlier model, yet his system completely smashes Crysis and runs on full specs without a glitch... please please could someone help me out as to what the problem might be?? Im desperate and very disappointed :( Hope someone can help... Kind regards, Alex

    Hi.
I got an Acer 6930g for Christmas and have had frequent problems with what I think is the subwoofer. The sound on the laptop starts crackling over the top of music I have been playing. I identified the problem as the subwoofer by adjusting the levels of output on the Sound menu from Control Panel. After a few minutes the crackling may disappear, or sometimes I have to restart the laptop. Any help as to what is going on and what can be done to solve it?
    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this gets read still. I'm feeling that the sound of the notebook speakers has been a lot more powerful on the pre-installed Vista than it is on Windows XP with the Realtek drivers listed here. Is there any more specific driver for the sound hardware?

    I've just got a 6930 with Vista Pre-installed .. YUCK!
I gave it a quick wirl with a usenet version (8 in 1) of Windows 7 and all appeared perfect but wifi kept dropping.. Anyroads, I don't want beta sw!
I've been laboriously installing XP now, fishing drivers from around the world, and I've "almost" got everything working, except for the bluetooth.. I tried you donwload and it said "device not found, shall I contiune anyway).. I did, and, obviously it doesn't work. I'm just wondering IF the 6930 has bluetooth or not? It has the ICON on the pretty black face-plate, but that's no proof, is it!

If you installed windows vista just normally from a bought cd or anything else you should download the sp1 for it then you will see the 4gb of ram. But still when you enter the task manager you will see an active ram of 3 gb so there is a little glitch or something cause I bought this laptop with vista home sp1 and that suppoted the 4 gb of ram completely but when I installed vista ultimate I got the problem that he doesn't recognize all of my ram in task manager.

normally windows XP unable to detect SATA AHCI Hard driver configuration... so you should slipstreaming AHCI driver (for 6930 Download here) and follow the tutorial here (Slipstreaming driver - nLite) it will make Windows XP able to detect SATA AHCI configuration.

Like everyone else that has used this great Blog, I've had success in getting rid of the dreaded 64 bit vista and got back to my trusty XP. However, like most of the others, I have a couple of glitches. The first one is after installing XP, my card reader ended up as drive "C", my optical drive as "D" and my hard drive as "E". Is there any way of reinstalling XP and getting my hard drive to come up as the "C" drive? My other problem was with the Sata drivers. I tried slipstreaming with NLite, but it wouldn't work. I tried using Virtual PC 2007 to test out the iso files, but they load only as far as half way through the "Installing Devices" point, and then just stop. No error messages or anything. If I make an SP3 iso file using Autostreamer, it works fine. However, you can't slipstream drivers with that. Has anyone run into this problem? Is there any way around it? I'm running in IDE mode now, and that's not really a big problem. However, I would prefer Sata if I can get it to work.
Thanks again for the super info on drivers.
    Bill.

Well, I fixed the Sata problem. It was NLite that was causing it. I noticed a reference in this Blog about a free slipstreaming app called XP iso Builder. So, I decided to try it out. It worked just fine. I loaded the .iso into Virtual PC with no problem, so then, I burned it to a CD. That loaded into Virtual PC as well. I haven't tried it on my Asire 6930G yet. I'm waiting to see if anyone can come up with a fix for my drive lettering problem.
Thanks again for all the info.
    Bill.

Huge on laptop audio. However when I recieved the computer I switched the driver to the newer Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5704_VistaX86, however the bass just went dead, the sound is around 70% the volume. With the previous driver the sound quality was amazing with extreme bass however like previous posts I would get moments when it would go out and start crackling and i would have to restart.

I got the bass to work on my 6920g, I went to acers website and into the download drivers section looking in the divers for the 6530. I did this because I noticed there is a tube under the screen on this model and I thought it would have been their earliest 6000 series notebook with possible xp options. It just so happens that if you click the drop down for the operating system (which is right under where you select the model) you will see that windows XP is selectable. So you can select XP as an operating system and then download the audio driver.

For me, installing this driver added "internal subwoofer" as a slider in my mixer options. This brought all the bass power back when I would slide it up to the top
